Government Websites

Official websites of municipalities contain comprehensive information concerning the local area. Also, the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has guidebooks for those affected by the earthquake in each prefecture. The Prime Minister’s Office of Japan website contains alerts and support information, as well as information on traffic restrictions in the affected areas.
 
・Ishikawa Prefecture (Multilingual)
Change the display language by clicking on “Foreign Language” at the top of the page → “Select language”.
 
・Niigata Prefecture (Multilingual)
Change the display language by clicking on “Foreign Language” at the top of the page → select language from “Translation Service”.
 
・Toyama Prefecture (Multilingual)
Toyama prefecture has launched its own assistance package for those affected by the earthquake.
Change the display language by clicking on “Foreign Language” at the top of the page → select language.
 
・Fukui Prefecture (Multilingual)
Change the display language by clicking on “Language” at the top of the page.
 
・Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (Japanese)
Although the website is in Japanese, it contains guidebooks from each prefecture for those affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake. The guidebooks for Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures also include information on consultation services for foreigners.
As there is a lot of useful information in the guidebooks, we recommend that you consult them when using a consultation service for foreigners.

Free consultation offered by Bar Associations (Japanese)

Bar associations offer “2024 Noto Peninsula Ask Anything Free Telephone Consultation” services. Consultations are generally provided in Japanese.

Please beware of scams!

Immediately after a disaster, there are scams that take advantage of the situation. Scammers may attempt to exploit victims' feelings of anxiety and insecurity to get them to sign contracts for repairing damaged houses based on lies, or to sell them necessary goods that are in short supply at an inappropriate price. While you may be understandably feeling anxious after the earthquake, please take care to protect yourself by not making immediate decisions and by consulting those close to you before responding.

Please note that there may be differences depending on the device you are using, and in some cases translation may not be available even if you follow the instructions below. For details, refer to the help pages of each browser’s official website.
 
・Safari
iPhone
Settings>General>Languages and Regions>Confirm that "Preferred Languages" includes the language you wish to translate into.
Go to Settings>Translation>Manage Languages, and download your language.
 
Open Safari, tap "aA" on the left side of the bottom toolbar, and select "Translate to (your language)".
Before you tap "aA", go to Settings>Translation>Manage Languages, and download your language.
 
・Mac
If the web page can be translated, you will see a "Translate" button in the "Smart Search" field. Click on that the "Translate" button, then select your language.
 
・Chrome
In the list of pages in Google search results, click "Translate this page" next to each page.

Click "Translation" on the right side of the address bar → Select your language
or
Right-click on the web page → select "Translate to (your language)"
or
(Windows PC only): Open Chrome → click "" in the upper right corner → click "Settings” → Click on "Languages" on the left side → "Preferred Languages" and click on "" next to your language
If your language is not listed, click "Add language"
→ Click "Show Google Chrome in this language".
→ Restart Chrome to apply the changes
 
・Edge
If the web page can be translated, a pop-up window will appear asking, "Would you like to translate the page in (your language)?" Then, select your language and click "Translate".

・How to use Youtube’s automatic translation function
PC
Go to "Settings" in the gear symbol at the bottom right of the video and select "Subtitles" > "Auto Translate" > "(Your language)".
If subtitles are turned off, you can select "Auto Generate," and "Auto Translate" will appear under "Auto Generate".
 
Smartphone or tablet
Instead of playing the video in the Youtube application, play the video in a browser application such as Safari or Chrome.
Tap the "aA" icon in the browser's search bar → select "Desktop website".
The following steps are the same as when playing the video on a PC as described above. If the font size can be adjusted, you can it to 200% for easier reading.
