DMO / Destination Management Frameworks

With the growing importance of "tourism and urban/community development" that utilizes a region's unique natural and cultural resources to both revitalize the local economy and improve the quality of life, establishing sustainable destination management frameworks that involves collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including local governments, tourism businesses, residents, and non-profit organizations, is an urgent issue. Destination Management Frameworks, including Destination Management/Marketing Organizations (DMOs) promoted by the Japan Tourism Agency require advanced management capabilities in all aspects of governance, finance, and strategy as core organizational skills for maximizing regional value through tourism.

Drawing on our knowledge of corporate governance, regional finance, public-private partnerships, and other areas, Atsumi & Sakai provides comprehensive support for institutional design and operation of regional management/marketing systems that promote tourism and urban development through the following:

  • Design and operational support for multi-stakeholder governance structures (including enactment of ordinances, development of guidelines, etc.); and
  •  Support for agreements and contracts between private companies and local governments, support for public-private partnerships, including the private finance initiative (PFI).
