Personal Information, Privacy/Big Data

When engaging in a business geared towards individuals such as consumers, it is often necessary to consider the handling of data not only from the viewpoint of intellectual property laws but also from a personal information and privacy perspective. However, the speed with which the various related laws and guidelines, most notably the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, are established and amended is remarkably fast, and it is not always easy to have an up-to-date grasp of the rules that apply. Moreover, handling personal information and privacy that qualifies as "legal" is not always sufficient, as handling also needs to be socially "appropriate". Our lawyers have extensive experience handling personal information and privacy issues and support a wide range of clients' business activities, from scheme formulation to responding to information leaks.
