Press Release: Former Japanese Financial Regulatory Chief Nobuchika Mori has become an advisor of Atsumi & Sakai

TOKYO  Atsumi & Sakai, one of Japan’s leading full-service law firms with strength in finance transactions and financial services regulation law, welcomes Mr. Nobuchika Mori, former Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency of Japan (the “JFSA”), as the Firm’s adviser.

 

Mr. Mori joined the Ministry of Finance in 1980 after graduating from the University of Tokyo, and successively held important positions with the government of Japan, including Vice Commissioner for Policy Coordination of the Planning and Coordination Bureau, Director-General of the Inspection Bureau and Director-General of the Supervisory Bureau of the JFSA. In July 2015, he was appointed Commissioner of the JFSA, where, for three years until his retirement in July this year, he played a central role in Japanese financial administration, actively working for organizational reform of the JFSA and adopting a number of new policies.

 

Mr. Mori also previously served as Consul of the Consulate General of Japan in New York, as well as Minister of the Embassy of Japan in the United States of America.

 

Mr. Mori is an adjunct professor in international and public affairs and a senior research scholar at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.
