On Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo, Asian Legal Business (ALB) magazine hosted its ALB Japan Law Awards 2017 Awards Ceremony. At this awards ceremony, Setsuko Yufu, Partner, won Woman Lawyer of the Year, and Atsumi & Sakai won Shipping Law Firm of the Year.

The category of Woman Lawyer of the Year was established this year to recognize the contributions of women lawyers. Ms. Yufu is the first to be recognized in this category.

Atsumi & Sakai is committed to promoting diversity.  In addition to having both partners and associates who are registered foreign lawyers (gaikokuhou jimu bengoshi), our firm is notable for employing women in numerous roles throughout the Firm. Additionally, ALB selected the Firm as Employer of Choice (the best law firms to work for) seven times, more than any other firm in Japan. Receiving this year’s Woman Lawyer of the Year, Ms. Yufu was recognized for her broad-ranging contributions and activities for her clients, and we also believe this award recognizes the Firm’s efforts to create a diverse workplace.

In order to provide the best possible service for our clients, Atsumi & Sakai will continue to maintain and promote diversity, and foster an environment where everyone in our firm can do their best possible work.
